Ratings and reviews
Square [NYSE: SQ] was founded in 2009 by Jack Dorsey and Jim McKelvey. They created a small, portable card reader that let merchants accept credit card payments via their smartphones. Since then Square has grown into a full suite of financial products.
Square’s ecosystem includes point of sale software, payroll services and business analytics tools for small and medium sized businesses. They also offer Cash App, a peer to peer payment service that has grown to include banking features like direct deposits and investing. In 2021 Square acquired Afterpay, a buy now pay later service to add to their consumer finance offerings.
Based in San Francisco, they went public in 2015 as SQ. They’re a force in the financial services space.
Square has an app marketplace called the Square App Marketplace, a directory of third-party apps and integrations to extend their products. This marketplace has solutions for point of sale, e-commerce, accounting, marketing and more so you can customize your Square setup to your business needs. The integrations cover a wide range of industries so you can streamline your operations and connect Square to other tools you use.
The Square App Marketplace has apps that can be connected to your Square account so you can add partner apps that are vetted for compatibility. These integrations are meant to complement the Square services you already have, for those who want to go beyond what’s natively offered.
